IE10 support ending in January

There was a recent update regarding the future of Internet Explorer on Microsoft’s Product Lifecycle website:

“Beginning January 12, 2016, only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates. Please visit the Internet Explorer Support Lifecycle Policy FAQ here
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/Microsoft-Internet-Explorer for list of supported operating systems and browser combinations.”

Translation: No new security updates for IE 10 and below as of January 12, 2006, UNLESS you’re running Windows Server 2008 (NOT R2) or Windows Vista, in which case it will still be supported.

Implications: Many. We have many clients, predominantly in the banking and credit union verticals, that run multiple applications that have very specific IE requirements.  Lack of support, including security updates for those running older versions of IE due to software compatibility issues in regulated industries, is going to become a big deal pretty quickly.

We encourage you to work with your software vendors who should be working diligently to provide updates that will allow the use of fully supported versions of Internet Explorer after the January 12, 2016 deadline.
