Another prevalent product facing an end-of-life deadline soon is VMware’s vSphere v5.5, which includes vSphere Hypervisor ESXi 5.5 and vCenter Server 5.5, on September 19, 2018. A server virtualization platform, VMware vSphere is widely-used for implementing and managing virtual machine (VM) infrastructures.
For clients in regulated industries who are required to run fully supported versions of all software, this means an upgrade project must be completed this summer. However, provided your support agreement with VMware is current, the process to obtain upgrade licensing is fairly straight-forward: those that utilize the free license just need to generate a new license; those that have a paid license can convert the 5.5 to a 6 license in the VMware portal.
